The Desert and the Atomic Age
It’s no secret that I absolutely adore Palm Springs. I could visit every weekend. It’s fun to lounge by the pool but I also like to do regular drive-bys at my favorite historical hotels and homes. Palm Springs has some of the best-preserved relics of all the places I’ve ever visited….it’s totally the tiki capital of the world, too (I might have just made that up).
I scoured Flickr for this collection of vintage postcards and ephemera showcasing some of Palm Spring’s finest. The best part is that many of these places still exist - and look alarmingly similar. Which pool would you choose to post up at in 1964, Hawaiian Tropic and cigarettes in hand? Also, can someone tell me why I want my entire house to be covered in AstroTurf?
